Little Linksters
Two weeks each summer, the LBJGA conducts the Little Linksters program at Heartwell Park GC. This introductory level class meets each morning for a week, going though the basics of the game and building on the previous day’s learning. The culmination of the week is a scramble format tournament where the juniors use the set of clubs they get from the program and play in a foursome with a sponsoring adult. There is a luncheon and awards program after the tournament.Information on the program can be obtained by contacting the LBJGA in the spring or summer of each year at (562) 570-1272.
Introductory Clinics
In conjunction with the City’s Parks, Recreation and Marine Department and the Long Beach Unified School District, the LBJGA and American Golf’s teaching professionals conduct several introductory clinics to youth throughout the year. These are conducted at varying sites like middle school playgrounds, City park locations and the City’s golf courses.
All of the City of Long Beach golf courses participate in the SCGA Foundation’s Youth on Course program, which provides members with subsidized access to driving range practice and greens fees. The Long Beach Junior Golf Association is also a member club of the Southern California Golf Association.
Another way for youngsters to get introduced to or involved with golf, is the Long Beach Golf Little League, which conducts numerous activities primarily at the Recreation Park South Course.
The Long Beach Junior Golf Association, based at Heartwell Park GC, meets at the course on Friday afternoons and evenings and provides multiple levels of activities for members that are based on each junior’s level of proficiency in the game. Activities include instruction, short game competitions and playing up to 18 holes of golf.
